Bartender Job Summary

  • $12.00 an hour
  • 24 hours per week

The Bartender, as directed, provides alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage service at Westfield Insurance Country Club, Blair Conference Center, Corporate Dining, or Westfield Inn.  Duties include greeting customers in a friendly and courteous manner, taking beverage (and food) orders as necessary, pouring, mixing, and delivering beverages to customers or service staff accurately and timely, and maintaining the bar area.


Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)

1. Provides alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage service at Westfield Insurance Country Club, Blair Conference Center, Corporate Dining, or Westfield Inn.

2. Provide excellent customer service by interacting and making recommendations to guests on alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, this includes accurately mixing drinks and cocktails, pouring beer and wine.  Additionally answer all questions pertaining to Westfield Hospitality and Events thoroughly.

3. Verify age of guest through a valid photo ID for any alcohol requests.

4. Monitors the alcohol intake of guests and takes necessary steps to avoid excessive alcohol consumption or overserving of guests in accordance to TIPS and ServSafe trainings.

5. Maintains a sense of professionalism at all times in appearance, mannerisms, and during guest interaction.  This includes adhering to all of Westfield Universal Standards.

6. Expected to follow and execute all Standard Operating Procedures.

7. Achieves the high standards of quality, production, cooperation, and service through exceptional communication with the service staff to ensure timely delivery of beverage orders.

8. Communicates with the culinary team to acquire knowledge on menus being served and provide any information necessary for noted dietary restrictions. 

9. Prior to an event, duties include: garnish preparation, confirming product inventory, and moving and stocking of portable bars and product.  Post event duties include taking inventory of all products, properly storing all product and garnish, restocking, cleaning and sanitizing of work station. 

10. Maintains clean, stocked and sanitized bar throughout events.

11. Assists other hospitality team members as needed to ensure work is completed and a high level of customer service is provided.

12. Maintains quality and function of equipment by following correct operating/cleaning procedures,  documenting information regarding events or repairs and clearly communicating these to the Hospitality Leader 

13. Participates in catering events occurring both on and off campus, working where assigned.

14. Attends training sessions as required. Complies with all OSHA and Westfield safety/ health training/ certification standards within required timeframes.

15. Ensures storage areas are maintained for maximum organization, cleanliness, and safety.

16. Consistently reports to work on time and completes shifts as scheduled.

17. May travel between Westfield on campus facilities as needed.


Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)

1. Must be 21 years of age or older due to the serving of alcoholic beverages.

2. Minimum of 6 months bartending experience or a certificate from a bartending school.

3. Proven ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.

4. Demonstrated strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

5. Demonstrated focus and commitment to customer satisfaction.

6. High school diploma, GED or demonstrated commensurate experience.


Physical Requirements (specific to the role) 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

• Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as: telephone, computer, web, voice, e-mail, etc.

• Ability to remain on feet, standing walking, and climbing stairs for the majority of the workday.

• Ability to maintain movement, bend, reach, lift and carry 40lbs.

• Ability to work a flexible schedule of days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

• Ability to travel as required.
