Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist 2 Job Summary

Location:  Westfield Center, OH home office or remote work location within our operating territory

Salary Range:  $80,239 - $104,310

 

Under moderate supervision, the BI Specialist 2 works with the business stakeholders, business system analysts, data integration specialists, data analysts, architects and the database administrators (DBA’s) to build enterprise analytical and reporting solutions that enable decision making processes by end users in the business.     

 

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)

  1. Under moderate supervision, designs and develops BI analytical and reporting solutions based on user needs by leveraging knowledge of data sources, reporting best practices and tool capabilities.
  2. Actively participates in requirement meetings with end-users to understand BI analytical and reporting needs.
  3. Assists in the rollout, maintenance and ongoing administration of BI analytical and reporting solutions.
  4. Creates documentation including, but not limited to: standards, design, functional and technical specifications, disaster recovery plans, etc.
  5. Writes moderately complex structured query language (SQL).
  6. Coordinates changes with other areas of the IT department as appropriate.
  7. Delivers status updates and technical transparency through effective communication both written and oral to Technical Leads and Leaders.
  8. Coaches and mentors less experienced BI Specialist team members and off shore vendors.
  9. Monitors and reviews operating statistics for conformance to performance standards and overall system performance goals.  Performs tuning as needed.
  10. Participates in creating, maintaining, and managing Asset Management Plans.
  11. Provides on-call support as needed.
  12. Assists end-users with technical support.
  13. Participates in disaster recovery tests.
  14. Travels occasionally to participate in special assignments, training, and/or travel between office locations.

 

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)

  1. 3+ years’ business intelligence experience or related work.
  2. 3+ years’ experience developing in IBM Cognos tools or similar enterprise business intelligence platform.
  3. 3+ years’ experience presenting information through reports, cubes, and visualization technologies.
  4. 3+ years’ experience working with complex relational databases and writing complex SQL queries.
  5. Experience multi-tasking and prioritizing work assignments to ensure deadlines are met.
  6. Solid problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
  7. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.  Experience influencing individuals within a team. 
  8. Experience working independently and with moderate supervision in a team environment.
  9. Experience with agile/rapid delivery development methodologies.
  10. Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or commensurate experience.
  11. Valid driver’s license and a driving record that conforms to company standards

  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing, and working on a computer for extended periods of time).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as:  telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to respond to emergency service calls at any time outside of normally assigned work hours.
  • Ability to travel as required.
