Business Systems Analyst 1

Location: Westfield Center, OH

Salary Range:  54,166 – 70,417

 

A Business Systems Analyst 1 (BSA 1) serves as a liaison between the business client and IT in order to develop solutions that meet a business need. A BSA 1 works on solutions that are typically low risk, low complexity, and may be template driven and include repeatable tasks. Under direct supervision, a BSA 1 elicits and maintains business requirements, translates business requirements into system requirements, and manages clarifications between business and technical teams.

 

The BSA 1 uses standard processes to anticipate, document and mitigate discipline risks, issues and assumptions. The BSA 1 delivers low risk/ low complexity projects and releases with moderate guidance, and contributes to these activities on higher complexity project and releases. The BSA 1 role is focused on developing the skill set of a BSA 2 (e.g. increasing analytical knowledge and skill, developing applied subject matter expertise, learning work planning and management).

 

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)

  1. Serves as a liaison between the business client and IT in order to develop solutions that meet a business need typically of low complexity. 
  2. Maintains and manages requirement content via a variety of means.  Generates System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) artifacts that may include source-to-destination data mapping, report requirements, legacy system requirements, business requirements, non-functional requirements, etc. 
  3. Learns and adheres to SDLC and IT Service Management (ITSM) processes.
  4. Ensures requirement discipline artifacts can be effectively leveraged by other SDLC disciplines.
  5. Participates in requirement review sessions with business and IT.
  6. Assists business clients with the development and/or enhancement of solutions and/or processes. 
  7. During solution implementations, may help develop communication materials, define supporting procedures and standards, document training materials, and/or assist in training efforts (may partner with Westfield University).
  8. Performs or assists with defect or incident root cause analysis in support of minor incident and problem management processes.
  9. Performs or assists with other functions of small size to low complexity including vendor coordination, planning, project management, release management and change management as assigned. Actively participates in special projects as assigned.
  10. Participates in the identification of and analysis of automation alternatives within solutions.
  11. Assists in the creation of business cases and other related financial planning, impact identification, or value justification.
  12. Develops fundamental skills in elicitation and requirements documentation.
  13. Performs or assists with production support and provides support to project teams as needed.
  14. Participates in risk identification efforts and escalation to project managers and leaders.
  15. Travels occasionally in order to participate in special assignments, training, and/or travel between office locations.
 

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)

  1. Practical exposure (e.g. secondary education, GDP) to the software development process OR Three (3) or more years of experience in a Property & Casualty insurance role with relevant P&C subject matter expertise. 
  2. One or more years of experience in one or more of the following: analyzing and solving problems, spotting risks and opportunities for improvement, and/or driving changes aimed at optimizing results.
  3. One or more years of experience utilizing verbal and written communication to convey complex concepts and/or technical data to a variety of audiences (e.g. individual contributors, various levels of leadership, technical and non-technical partners)
  4. One or more years of experience working individually and as a member of a team to achieve objectives at a vigorous pace, including capabilities such as:
    • quickly building domain knowledge through a variety of self-directed learning methods
    • consistently organizing, prioritizing, and managing one's own work to meet deadlines
    • handling multiple work streams at the same time
  5. Bachelor’s degree or commensurate workplace experience
  6. Valid driver’s license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.
 
Physical Requirements (specific to the role)

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing and working on a computer for extended periods of time).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as:  telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to respond to emergency service calls at any time outside of normally assigned work hours.
  • Ability to travel as required.
