Business Systems Analyst 3 Job Summary

Location:  Westfield Center, OH or Westfield’s Operating Territory

Salary Range:  $86,368 - $99,323 - $112,280

 

A Business Systems Analyst 3 (BSA 3) serves as a liaison between the business client and IT in order to develop solutions that meet a business need. A BSA 3 works on solutions that are typically medium to high risk and high complexity. A BSA 3 elicits and maintains business requirements, translates business requirements into system requirements, and manages clarifications between business and technical teams.

The BSA 3 uses standard and advanced processes to anticipate, document and mitigate discipline risks, issues and assumptions. The BSA 3 delivers medium to high risk and highly complex projects and releases and leads less experienced BSAs in these activities on low to medium risk and low to medium complexity projects and releases. The BSA 3 role is focused on developing the following skill set: formalized leadership skills including human capital skills (e.g. workforce planning, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, performance management) and project management skills (e.g. budgeting, planning, forecasting, influencing). The BSA 3 will be responsible for coaching and mentoring less experienced BSAs.

The BSA 3 actively contributes to business planning, strategic planning, business needs assessments, financial analysis activities, business case creation and technology planning as necessary.

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)

  1. Serves as a liaison between the business client and IT in order to develop solutions that meet a business need typically medium to high risk and high complexity.
  2. Facilitates requirements review sessions with IT peers and business partners for the development and/or enhancement of solutions and/or processes.
  3. Maintains and manages requirement content via a variety of means and generates System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) artifacts that may include source-to-destination data mapping, report requirements, legacy system requirements, business requirements, non-functional requirements, etc.
  4. Ensures requirement discipline artifacts adhere to SDLC and IT Service Management (ITSM) processes and can be effectively leveraged by other SDLC disciplines.
  5. During solution implementations, provides expertise in the development of user-facing artifacts, defining of supporting procedures and standards, documenting training materials, and/or assisting in training efforts.
  6. Leads, performs, or assists with defect or incident root cause analysis in support of high severity incident and problem management processes.
  7. Leads, performs or assists with other large size or high-complexity functions including vendor coordination, planning, project management, release management and change management as assigned and actively participates in special projects as assigned.
  8. Leads the identification of and analysis of automation alternatives within solutions.
  9. Leads or facilitates the creation of business cases and other related financial planning, impact identification, or value justification.
  10. Maintains expertise in elicitation and requirements documentation skills.
  11. Performs or assists with production support as needed.
  12. Communicates a shared understanding of business problems, a complete range of solution options, and the costs and benefits of each to a variety of audiences (e.g. business partners, key stakeholders, IT partners). This includes influencing all audiences on the most advisable solution to pursue and method to deliver it.
  13. Participates in the prioritization process with business stakeholders.
  14. Leads risk identification efforts and escalation to project managers and leaders.
  15. Provides subject matter expertise and thought leadership on a variety of issues and initiatives.
  16. Coaches and mentors less experienced team members. Leads other BSAs on a project team. Coordinates and/or performs project management on small projects or initiatives.
  17. May participate in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding of new BSAs.
  18. Travels occasionally in order to participate in special assignments, training, and/or travel between office locations.

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)

  1. Seven years of experience in one of the following: business analysis, systems analysis, and/or complementary software development role with expertise in requirements management processes and tools.
  2. Seven years of experience in one or more of the following: analyzing and solving business problems, spotting risks and opportunities for improvement, and/or driving changes that have optimized measurable business results.
  3. Seven years of experience utilizing verbal and written communication to convey complex concepts and/or technical data to a variety of audiences (e.g. individual contributors, various levels of leadership, technical and non-technical partners).
  4. Seven years of experience delivering technology solutions within the guidelines of one or more documented Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies
  5. Seven years of experience working individually and as a member of a team to achieve objectives at a vigorous pace, including capabilities such as
    1. quickly building domain knowledge through a variety of self-directed learning methods
    2. consistently organizing, prioritizing, and managing one's own work to meet deadlines
    3. handling multiple work streams at the same time
  6. One or more years of experience planning work for multiple practitioners within a team
  7. One or more years of experience coordinating the execution of requirements and other analytical work by other practitioners
  8. One or more years of experience mentoring and coaching less experienced practitioners
  9. Three or more years of experience providing thought leadership in areas of low to medium complexity, e.g. contributing analytical expertise to their work partners, proactively voicing their opinions, appropriately challenging delivery plans, innovating delivery options, etc.
  10. Property & Casualty insurance subject matter expertise.
  11. Bachelor’s degree or commensurate workplace experience.
  12. Valid driver’s license and a driving record that conforms to company standards

  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing and working on a computer for extended periods of time).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as: telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to respond to emergency service calls at any time outside of normally assigned work hours.
  • Ability to travel as required.
