Event Staff Job Summary

  • $10.67 an hour
  • 20-40 hours per week
  • This posting allows you to be considered for any location at Westfield's Home Office in Westfield Center.

Event Staff, as directed, prepares facilities for events, provides food service at the Westfield Group Country Club, Blair Conference Center, Corporate Dining or Westfield Inn.  Duties include greeting and seating customers, serving meals, directing customers to and answering questions about the food and beverages offered, setting and clearing tables, room preparation and resetting event space.

 

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)

1. Prepares facilities and provides food service at the Westfield Group Country Club, Blair Conference Center, Corporate Dining or Westfield Inn.  This includes greeting and seating customers, serving meals, directing customers to and answering questions about the food and beverages offered, setting and clearing tables, room preparation, monitoring buffet lines and beverage services, and resetting event space.

2. Works to ensure event/room setups are completed accurately, safely, efficiently and based on the most up to date Banquet Event Order.   This can include moving, setting up, taking down, and putting away tables, chairs and other related items necessary for the event.

a. Maintains product and equipment for dining rooms and meeting spaces. Informs leader when items need repairs or replacement.

3. Interacts with the guests by directing them to their appropriate meeting room, assisting with food and beverage needs, and thoroughly answering all questions.

4. Maintains a sense of professionalism at all times in appearance, mannerisms, and during guest interaction. This includes adhering to all of Hospitality Universal Standards and Experience Maps.

5. Follows and executes all Standard Operating Procedures.

6. Communicates with culinary team to gain information regarding the menus being served and provide any necessary information for noted dietary restrictions. 

7. Sets-up and tests requested AV equipment to ensure all equipment is operational.

8. Assists others on the team as needed to ensure work is completed and a high level of customer service is provided.

9. Communicates and documents any changes and/or updates of an event to the Manager on Duty.

10. Participates in catering events occurring both on campus and off campus, and travels between on-campus facilities as needed.

11. Attends training sessions as required. Complies with all OSHA and Westfield safety/training/certification standards within required timeframes.

12. Ensures storage areas are kept maintained for maximum organization, cleanliness, and safety.

13. Achieves the high standards of quality, production, cooperation, and service set by Westfield Group for our employees, guests and customers.

14. Consistently reports to work on time and completes shifts, as scheduled. 

15. As assigned, may be required to drive Westfield Inn Shuttle Vehicle (e.g. car, van, shuttle) to transport guests between Home Office campus facilities. Completes all related training and maintains compliance with all safety/operating procedures.

 

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)

1. Proven ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.

2. Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

3. Strong customer service orientation.

4. High school diploma, GED or commensurate experience.

5. If assigned to operate Inn Shuttle, required to possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.

 

Physical Requirements (specific to the role) 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

• Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as:  telephone, computer, web, voice, e-mail, etc.

• Ability to remain on feet, standing and walking, for the majority of the workday.

• Ability to move meeting tables, delivery carts, and other furniture as required.

• Ability to maintain movement, bend, reach, lift, pull/push and carry 50lbs inside and outside of buildings in all weather conditions

• Ability to climb steps.

• Ability to work a flexible schedule of days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

• Ability to travel as required.

• If assigned to serve alcoholic beverages, required to be 19 years of age or older.

• If assigned to operate Inn Shuttle, ability to operate a vehicle (e.g. car, van, shuttle) within the parameters of the driving policy.
