Facilities Engineering Technician 1 Job Summary
Salary Range: $48,369.00-$62,879.00
Location:  Westfield Center, OH

The Facilities Engineering Technician 1 performs and/or assists with preventive maintenance and repairs to plumbing, electrical, HVAC and mechanical systems in and around Westfield-owned facilities. Provides support to Safety, Security and Compliance for the maintenance and testing of life-safety systems. This position provides input on department decisions related to engineering components.

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)

1. Inspects Westfield-owned facilities and performs necessary basic repairs and preventive maintenance to electrical and mechanical systems in accordance and compliance with all state and local codes, OSHA regulations, and corporate policies and procedures.

2. Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment; Building Automation controls, air handlers, pumps, boilers, ice machines and other refrigeration equipment in all facilities.

3. Assists in the installation and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.

4. Performs regular testing and inspections on life-safety, emergency and lighting systems, as required by state and local codes.

5. Performs scheduled operational testing of generators and other emergency power systems.

6. Responsible for maintaining an inventory of needed facility related supplies. Orders supplies through or at the direction of the Facilities Engineering Leader.

7. Performs emergency repairs and is available to be on-call outside of normal working hours as part of a rotation schedule.

8. Inventories and maintains a company-issued tool set, testing equipment and personal protective equipment. Cleans and services tools upon completion of tasks. Stores shared tools and equipment in designated places in an orderly manner.

9. Performs the work of other skilled classifications (HVAC, Refrigeration, Electrical, Plumbing, etc.) as part of a cross training repair and preventive maintenance program.

10. Complies with OSHA, Westfield safety requirements, and other required training. Reports any unsafe conditions or violations of safety rules and regulations.

11. Maintains an organized work environment in all designated areas.

12. Completes routine paperwork. Manages and records all maintenance work through the department’s computerized maintenance management system (work order system).

13. As directed, travels throughout Westfield campus locations in order to perform all other essential duties. As necessary, may be required to occasionally travel to other company-owned worksites in Ohio.


Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)

1. 3+ years of job-related experience in facility engineering or HVAC/R repair and maintenance.

2. Experience successfully operating related hand and power tools (e.g. meters, diagnostic tools) and/or equipment.

3. Experience working with Microsoft Windows, Outlook, and Excel or transferable software packages (e.g., access control and work order systems).

4. Experience with lighting, building automation, and life-safety systems and controls.

5. Ability to work on call on a rotating schedule outside of normal working hours.

6. Valid driver’s license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.

7. High school diploma, GED, or commensurate work experience.

Physical Requirements (specific to the role)

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

* Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as: telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, two-way radio, etc.

* Ability to operate power and manual maintenance tools/ equipment.

* Ability to remain on feet for entire 8 hour work day including climbing stairs and walking.

* Ability to stoop, bend, crouch, reach, stand, lift, and carry objects weighing over 75 pounds.

* Ability to work on call on a rotating schedule outside of normal working hours.

* Ability to perform climb and work on ladders and scaffolding.

* Ability to travel as required.

* Ability to operate an automobile within the parameters of the driving policy.
