New Venture

The Opportunity:
Up to 65% of a restaurant's costs are allocated to labor and food, and optimizing these costs is a top priority for managers, owners and c-suites. In partnership with best in class restaurants, and leveraging advanced machine learning models, we have developed a solution by rooting our innovation efforts in our purpose – to help our customers mitigate risk and uncertainty. The product is up and running in multiple pilot locations, enabling continued iteration of the key features and refinement of the predictive model. We are seeking a proven Product Owner to take over the reins and drive continued growth and scale of the product.

The immediate focus of the Product Owner will be to launch a new digital, data driven product into the restaurant market. This role will oversee all aspects of taking new products to market, i.e. all go-to-market strategies including pricing, sales, branding, marketing.

Day to Day:

  • Point person on the product development team, using high-level perspective to define goals and create a product vision that is clear and alignment is gained
  • Regularly re-evaluates the product’s North Star Metric (NSM) to ensure development proceeds in the right direction
  • Oversees the actual product development operating as a key player throughout each event including planning, refinement and review
  • Collaborates effectively with data science, design/user experience, engineering, and support to optimize the overall user experience and maximize sales and retention.
  • Develops, and executes the product roadmap
  • Develops and maintains a product roadmap aligned to the NSM and the strategic frameworks of 1848V
  • Articulates the roadmap as a high-level, strategic, visual summary that outlines the vision and direction for the product offering over time to operate as a guide for stakeholders to reference as well as plan for execution
  • Collaborates with strategic partners to co-develop a roadmap and drive products and features from concept to launch with rapid iteration.
  • Manages the product backlog:
  • Ingests feedback from customers, designers, and developers to synthesize a list of backlog items along with the value each brings to the product
  • Prioritizes the backlog items based on the overall strategy and business objectives
  • Ensures that backlog dependencies are taken into account to inform the necessary sequence of development
  • Prioritizes product needs juggling the triangle of scope, budget and time, weighing priorities according to the needs and objectives of stakeholders; defining steps required for next iteration and working with the team to refine the process, identify areas for improvement and enable the execution
  • Understands and anticipates customer needs to more effectively manage the development process; relentlessly focuses on what should be next balancing technical constraints and a differentiated product
  • Takes primary responsibility for inspecting and evaluating product progress through each iteration; makes judgement calls on performance, decides the progress pace of the team
  • Develops and maintains appropriate tracking and reporting of product performance and product P&L as context for future investment.

Qualifications:

  • Previous product leadership experience at a B2B tech startup with a successful build of a thriving software product or a leader of a corporate product function that developed new or additional software product- or service-line extensions in a company known for new product development
  • Successful leadership of digital, data driven products through commercialization; demonstrated experience developing profitable strategies and releasing products that meet and exceed business objectives
  • Experience working at the cutting edge of a trend driven by new technologies or a shift in consumer preferences (ex: product powered by machine learning/AI)
  • Metrics driven day-to-day product leadership
  • Accountability for and management of P&L for a product, ability to illustrate and explain variances
  • Ability to influence without authority and communicate a product vision across a variety of diverse stakeholders (executional team, advisory groups, end users, vendor partners.) Excellent detailed written and verbal communication skills, possibly including some user interface documentation skills.
  • Collaborative, results-driven critical thinker to lead the development and refinement of the product based on deep customer insights
  • Ability to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of various pricing models and create projections based around the models

Preferred Experience:

  • Subject matter expertise in the restaurant technology industry with working knowledge of how to develop solutions for this market
  • Light software development experience
  • Previous work with user interface and user experience design
  • Previous work in a lean, agile, sprint-based environment
  • Methodology experience: Design Thinking, Systems Thinking, Human-Centered Design
