Release Analyst 2 Job Summary

The Release Analyst 2 manages cross-organizational efforts required to introduce application, database, and infrastructure changes into requested environments. This role is responsible for ensuring all changes are production ready, and for coordinating and facilitating successful delivery per the Release Management policy while maintaining the integrity and availability of existing systems. Crafts communication for significant Release Management efforts and drives Release Management process compliance across IT.  Provides oversight to Release Analyst 1 team members and may provide organization and guidance to complex projects / programs. This role also produces the metrics associated with Release Management.

 

The Release Analyst 2 will also be asked to coordinate activities and execute the deployment process via enterprise deployment tools to ensure successful deployments and environment integrity and execute the automated release pipeline from code compilation, testing, through deployment to meet integration and delivery initiatives. Provide support to complex projects and orchestrate configuration and integration activities.

 

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)

  1. Manages cross-organizational efforts required to introduce application, database, and infrastructure changes into requested environments. 
  2. Manages Change Orders (COs) to ensure they are production ready, validates necessary artifacts are completed, schedules and coordinates releases to ensure changes are successfully delivered to the requested environment. Ensures the effectiveness of IT’s Release Management processes.
  3. Receives, logs, and allocates priority to all COs for all production and non-production systems.
  4. Manages releases by liaising with all necessary stakeholders to coordinate which changes will be associated with a particular release, validates components, plans the release, creates implementation plan, organizes resources, facilitates the release (includes deploying code, initiating testing scripts and requires off hours work - typically Sunday mornings), coordinates support personnel to mitigate issues, and performs follow-up activities, such as post implementation reviews.   
  5. Provides a recommendation of whether changes are ready for production.
  6. Ensures release readiness and acceptance, including validation of testing completion, back-out testing, adherence to code freeze date, asset/configuration item identification, and compliance to asset management standards.

 

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)

  1. Minimum 3 years of experience in IT Operations or production support.
  2. Minimum 2 years of Release or Project Management experience.
  3. Minimum 2 years of experience with ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) / ITSM (IT Service Management) methodology OR an ITIL Foundations certificate.
  4. Minimum 2 years of experience creating effective release implementation plan(s).
  5. Minimum 1 year of experience with cross system integrations and release management processes.
  6. Proficient with MS Office applications and collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data.

 

Physical Requirements (specific to the role)

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  • Ability to work off hours or on weekends (usually Sunday morning) managing releases.
  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing, and working on a computer for extended periods of time).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as:  telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to travel as required.
