Salary Range: Minimum: $ 49,411.00 - Midpoint: 56,821.00

 

Surety Trainee 1 Job Summary 

 


The Surety Trainee 1 works closely with mentors and peers to learn the surety business including underwriting, processing, claims, and servicing of contract and commercial surety bonds. This is a development position focused on building business and surety acumen. 

 

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)
1.    Develops surety underwriting competencies by completing contract and commercial surety training program along with structured on-the-job experiences guided by a variety of experienced surety professionals.
2.    Develops business acumen during the training period. Capability will be measured by key performance indicators such as the ability to assess risk, determine underwriting risk and exposure, and perform financial analysis.  These key performance indicators will be measured by mentors, trainers, coordinators, peer assessments and performance reviews.
3.    Participates in research-based project work, lesson definitions, reviews and exams.
4.    Prepares and delivers a variety of project presentations, business case analyses and assessments after research and evaluation. Presentations will be given to trainers, peers and various levels of leadership within the surety department. 
5.    Networks with all levels of the organization and participates in team-building activities with peers.
6.    Attends industry functions to develop business network and market awareness.
7.    Travels occasionally in order to participate in special assignments, training, and/or travel between office locations. 

 

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)
1.    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or commensurate work experience.
2.    Ability to perform financial analyses and conduct risk assessments. 
3.    Knowledge of finance, accounting, economics and/or marketing obtained through college coursework or work experience. 
4.    Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
5.    Strong organization and time-management skills.
6.    Experience using software packages (including, but not limited to, MS Word and MS Excel).
7.    Valid driver’s license and a driving record that conforms to company standards. 

 

Physical Requirements (specific to the role)    

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  


•    Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing and working on a computer for extended periods of time).
•    Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as:  telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail etc.
•    Ability to travel as required.
•    Ability to operate an automobile within the parameters of the driving policy.
