Surety Underwriter Intern, Summer 2022 (Open to Hybrid Work Arrangement) Job Summary 


Hourly Rate: $20.00/hour 
Location: Westfield Center, OH (Open to Hybrid Work Arrangement)
Duration and Work Hours: Summer, 2022; 40 hours/week for 3 months 

Are you looking for a summer intern position that will provide insight into nontraditional career opportunities in the fields of Accounting, Finance, Business or Pre-Law?  The Surety Department has a full time internship opening for a college senior level student during the summer of 2022. The right candidate is pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with an interest in surety business operations, management, underwriting or contract law. The selected candidate needs to be able to begin the internship in late May, 2022.  The approximate duration of the internship is 3 months. 


Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)


  • Develop business/surety/operations/claims acumen through interactions and shadowing with other professionals.
  • Lead / assist with project initiatives supporting business goals working independently and with others.
  • Ability to learn and navigate common software.
  • Actively participate in summer internship program events including Lunch & Learns.
  • Conduct research and/or other work for projects assigned.
  • Attend business unit meetings as assigned.
  • Create and deliver presentations.


Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)


  • A student pursuing a four-year Bachelor’s degree who will be graduating in December of 2022 or May of 2023.
  • Previous work experience.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and work with a team.
  • Demonstrated solid oral, written and interpersonal skills resulting in the ability to interact with all levels within the organization.
  • Demonstrated organization skills.
  • Demonstrate initiative and ability to work independently. 
  • Knowledge of web applications that enables organizations to work more efficiently by letting users share documents, data and information on team sites.
  • Valid driver’s license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.


Physical Requirements (specific to the role)

  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing and working on a computer for extended periods of time).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as:  telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Depending on assigned department, physical requirements may vary in severity.
