Regional Property Specialist
Employee Status: Regular
Schedule: Full-time
Location: Remote in the following territories;
- Chicago, IL
Des Moines, IA
Cedar Rapids, IA
Davenport, IA
Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN
Responsibilities;
- Coverage/Investigation/Liability - Determines whether proper coverage exists for the type of complex claim assigned, typically with damages in excess of $250,000. Investigates thoroughly to obtain relevant facts concerning all aspects of the claim, such as coverage, liability, legal climate, potential exposure, and damages, and makes decisions, where appropriate, on claim resolution. Monitors ongoing case development for appropriateness.
- Storm/Travel - Travels on short notice, regardless of location or duration, to handle large or complex losses. Participates frequently and as a first responder on catastrophe teams as required. May participate as a manager or co-manager of a catastrophe team.
- Damages - Determines the value of the damage of property through physical inspections, the use of appropriate tools, and other experts/consultants. Obtains all necessary documentation to support claim evaluation. Recognizes claim file exposures and escalates appropriately.
- Coordination of Resources - Selects, directs and supervises internal and external resources and experts impacting short and long-term claim results. Controls and coordinates the activities of cause and origin experts, engineers, consultants, accountants, attorneys and other experts. May coordinate countrywide handling of large/complex losses and participate in subrogation investigation and recovery activities.
- Communication - Maintains effective and ongoing communication with claims staff, internal and external business partners, insureds, claimants, agents, attorneys, other insurance companies, claims leadership, vendors/contractors, and public adjusters.
- Customer Service - Ensures customer service excellence. Responsible for the customer and agent experience associated with assigned claims.
- Reserving/Reporting - Establishes and reviews proper reserves for each claim based upon thorough investigation, evaluation, and experience. Completes appropriate reports so that the current status of the claim is clearly documented.
- Negotiation/Settlement - Within decision making authority, negotiates timely and appropriate settlements with insureds, claimants, vendors, attorneys, and other insurance companies. Refers claims exceeding authority to appropriate leader with recommendations.
- File Exposure Analysis - Participates in large/complex exposure file analysis and strategy development via roundtable discussions.
- Leader Assistance - May substitute for other leader or supervise individual property claim files.
- Collaboration - Collaborates with internal/external business partners, and large account customers, seeking and/or providing assistance or input when needed to support business strategies.
- Coaching/Training - Assists claims professionals in the handling of large or complicated property losses. Actively participates in the coaching, development, training and education of claims professionals. Collaborates with property leadership team in the identification of property training needs. May assist in the design, development, and delivery of training to claims professionals.
- Travel - Travels as often as needed including regular utilization of fleet vehicle in order to cover assigned territory. This may involve traveling on short notice or daily driving duties as assigned regardless of location.
Qualifications;
- 7 or more years of property or industry-related claims handling experience (ex. construction estimator, property training, etc.). Experience negotiating claims and handling conflict.
- Technical expertise and experience handling complex property claims typically in excess of $250,000.
- Ability to frequently travel on short notice.
- Experience using Xactimate or other property estimating software.
- Experience using a claims management system e.g. Guidewire or diary management system to accurately document file activities.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the company.
- Ability to analyze and interpret insurance policies and other contracts. Thorough understanding of applicable statutes, regulations and case law.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows, Outlook, and Excel or transferable software packages.
- Holds and maintains appropriate adjuster licensing and certification(s) in assigned territories and will obtain additional licensing based upon business needs.
- Valid driver’s license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.
- Industry recognized designation such as CPCU, SCLA, AIC, etc.
- Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate experience.
- Physical essential functions: ability to work 40 hours in an office environment (sitting, standing, on a computer, etc.), operate office related technology (computer, phone, etc.), travel as required.
